    DESCRIPTION OF THE INDICART L130

The L130 scrolling-message sign has a modern and practical design. The enclosure is metallic finished in black and with an acrylic front. It can be mounted on a wall or ceiling very easily.

Its display is formed by 560 high-brightness LEDs with a wide viewing angle. Your messages will catch the viewers attention even if they are not located ideally with respect to the sign and there are light sources near.

Although being a medium-sized sign the L130's displaying capacity is remarkable. It can display an average of 16 characters at a time. This performance is obtained with a dense LED matrix and, most important, with fonts of proportional width. The letter "m", as an example, occupies more space than an "i." With this feature the capacity is maximized and not only that, the fonts are more elegant too. You can judge it:

  • This is not proportional width.
  • This is proportional width!
  • Programming the sign is an easy and quick job. To enter a message with a keyboard you must use one that is compatible with PC clones. The keyboard is not included as you may already have one on your PC which you can use. In its programming-by-keyboard mode the sign features a cursor that can move through the whole screen, letting you edit with the facilities of a word-processor. As you will be using professional keyboards you can type quickly and make use of the special keys for editing and the indicator LEDs. If don't have a PC don't worry, the keyboard you need can be obtained from every computer shop at not more than 20 dollars.

The sign's multiple effects and character attributes are programmed very easily. As an example, if you wish to have the letters that follow a certain position blink just press the F3 key and on screen you will have, behind the cursor, the icon "[blink]" just as if it were a character. Where you wish to end that effect place a "[no blink]" icon by pressing F4. Now, if you want to discard this effect just delete the icons as if they were normal letters.

If you want to program the L130 from a PC, or build a network of several signs showing the same or different messages, you can do so with the EIA-232D (also known as RS232) interface. The devices work as repeaters, so you can connect in series as many as you wish. Just see that the distance between two consecutive signs doesn't exceed 60 feet, but if you want to use longer connections ask your dealer about our special model with an improved interface.

Programming demands very little from you because the L130 takes care of the presentation of your messages on the screen. When you select a screen effect, "[show]" for example that shows each word one by one instead of scrolling them from right to left, the sign automatically separates each word, centers them and shows them for a period of time that depends on its length. If a word is too long to show it in full, the sign will scroll only that word and go on with the current effect. So you can be sure that your message will have a nice presentation regardless of how you enter it, and you can concentrate on its content. You can read more about the ease of use of our product in our text "The Human Electronics Philosophy".

Speaking of content, you must be interested in the storage capacity of the sign, which is of 8000 characters, equivalent to three sheets of paper typewritten in full. If you need more, consult your dealer. The Indicart signs keep the memory's content without depending on batteries, so we can assure that your message can be held in memory for more that ten years even with the device disconnected from the power line.

With all these remarkable features the best the L130 has to offer is an excellent reliability, which is obtained by using long-life components where necessary, making them work in very reliable conditions, protecting them against accidents like electrostatic-discharges or spikes in the power line, replacing problematic components like batteries with newer and better solutions, robustly designing the hardware and software and, most important, by keeping things simple but without sacrificing sophistication. To know more about this aspect of our product you can read "Reliability since the design phase"

If you are thinking of a particular application or special characteristic that you might need in a scrolling-message sign, Indicart may offer what you are looking for. For example: displays of other colors, messages that are in part unmodifiable so as to give the sign to others but maintaining a self promotion, other characters, logos, special serigraphs on the front, etc. This on-request features have ordering minimums but if you find it more practical we can discriminate the development costs so that you can try your idea before buying a quantity. Indicart intents to be flexible. If you are interested please ask your dealer or write us.

The L130 is an excellent way to promote and communicate informative messages in your company. We try to satisfy these needs. We do not sell retail outside the Mercosur, but if you have other inquires they are welcome, just contact us.

DETAIL OF CHARACTERISTICS OF THE INDICART L130

    DISPLAY: 24" x 2" matrix of 7 x 80 red (625nm) high-brightness (aprox. 9 mcd) LEDs of wide viewing angle.

ENCLOSURE: 28" x 3.75" x 1.4" black-finished aluminum enclosure with brackets for mounting on a wall or ceiling.

FONTS: of normal or double width, capable of blinking. With automatic centering and various screen effects (appear, go up or down, scroll, pause, change speed, etc.) The letters are of variable-width (an "m" occupies more than an "i".) The average capacity of the display is of 16 characters.

PROGRAMMABLE FROM A KEYBOARD: of the type used for PC clones (not included.) The keyboard's operation is fast and it is simplified by the use of a cursor that can move through the whole display and the PC-style editing keys: insert/overwrite, move the cursor, go to the end or the beginning, caps-lock, advance a screen, etc.

PROGRAMMABLE FROM A PC: with its EIA-232D interface (also known as RS-232.) The sign works as a repeater, so you can connect in series as many as you like and form a network. The maximum distance between the PC and the first sign depends on the quality of the interface-board in your PC, but all interfaces can manage 60 feet with no problems.

MEMORY: of 8000 characters with a guaranteed retention of at least 10 years (it doesn't depend on batteries.)

RELIABILITY: Protected against electrostatic discharges of up to 20.000 volts. Built with state-of-the-art components operating way below their recommended maximums. Protected against voltage spikes in the power line and with redundant systems that guarantee the continuity of operation after such events.

POWER SUPPLY: Maximum consumption of 40W, power supply included.

MADE-TO-ORDER FEATURES (subject to minimum-orders): More memory, green, yellow or hyper-bright LEDs, EIA-422 interface for longer network connections and better noise immunity, making part of the message unchangeable so as to keep a self-promotion when giving the sign to others, adding a logo in the front. . . If you have the need for a special sign in a quantity that justifies a made-to-order design and an export from Argentina we may be able to serve you. Just contact us. .
